Nomadic life: So you may be wondering how we came to set of on our nomadic journey.

During our 40s we lost two parents, faced redundancies, and dodged a few other curveballs. By the time we hit our 50s, we knew a reset was overdue, but selling our beautiful Victorian home, letting go of most of our possessions, and buying a 7.5m metal box on wheels? Not exactly what we had in mind… until one slightly heavy night with friends changed everything!

Now, as we edge closer to the next decade, we’ve collected a lot of experience, the good, the bad, and the ugly, and we hope it inspires anyone thinking about taking the leap into a nomadic life.

What we’ve learned along the way is that freedom doesn’t come from travel itself,  it comes from letting go of what no longer serves you. Without a doubt at first it was unnerving to have our whole world packed into a motorhome. We went from a house filled with stuff to living with only what we truly needed. But strangely, that simplicity brought a new kind of richness. Every sunrise view out of a different window reminded us why we’d chosen this path into a nomadic lifestyle.

Of course, it’s not all sunsets and sea views. There are breakdowns (mechanical and emotional!), missed ferries, and days when we long for a proper sofa, a long soak in a bubble filled bath or a familiar local pub. Yet, these challenges have made us more adaptable, patient, and grateful. We’ve learned to slow down, to live seasonally, and to enjoy the small things, morning coffee by a lake, a chat with a stranger who becomes a friend, and the peace that comes from knowing you need very little to feel content.

If you’re thinking about making a similar leap into living on the road, working seasonally as a campsite warden or exploring a digital nomad journey, our advice is simple: start small but start now. Take a trial trip, declutter, rent out your home, or spend a few weeks travelling in a campervan. You’ll soon discover what truly matters to you. For us, the rewards have far outweighed the risks, a life less ordinary, filled with stories, connection, and the joy of spending extended periods of time waking up wherever we choose.

The truth is, life is about choices. Sometimes you just have to place a bet on yourself, take the gamble and make the change. Life isn’t a dress rehearsal, a cliché, maybe, but true nonetheless.
